Not every heart condition announces itself with warning signs. In patients with Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HOCM), there is an increased risk of sudden cardiac arrest, even in otherwise active individuals.
Recently, I have successfully implanted a Dual-Chamber Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (AICD) in a high-risk HOCM patient as a preventive measure against life-threatening heart rhythm disturbances.
An AICD continuously monitors the heart rhythm and, if a dangerous arrhythmia occurs, delivers life-saving therapy within seconds—often before emergency medical help can arrive.
