TAVI / TAVR Procedure
Description
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), also known as Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat severe aortic valve stenosis. It offers an alternative to conventional open-heart valve replacement for appropriately selected patients.
At Anahat Advanced and Comprehensive Cardiac Clinic, Navi Mumbai, Dr. Rajesh Matta provides comprehensive cardiac evaluation and guidance for patients with aortic valve disease who may be candidates for TAVI/TAVR. The suitability of the procedure depends on several factors, including the severity of aortic stenosis, symptoms, age, overall health, heart function, and assessment of surgical and procedural risks.
During TAVI/TAVR, a replacement valve mounted on a catheter is introduced through a blood vessel, commonly through the femoral artery, and positioned inside the diseased aortic valve. The new valve helps restore blood flow from the heart to the body without requiring traditional open-heart surgery.
Patients may experience symptoms such as breathlessness, chest discomfort, fatigue, dizziness, or reduced exercise tolerance with severe aortic stenosis. A detailed evaluation, including echocardiography and other cardiac imaging, is essential before deciding on treatment.
For patients with suitable anatomy and clinical indications, TAVI/TAVR can provide an important treatment option with a minimally invasive approach.
